Susan B. Anthony Reception Held On February 21, 2012 Honoring Judge Nora Barry Fischer

The WBA kicked off its first annual diaper drive at the Susan B. Anthony Award Reception on February 21, 2012 to benefit local families who have difficulty affording the ever-increasing cost of diapers. The diaper drive is the brainchild of new mom, Jana Palko, who is co-chairing the diaper drive with Mariah Passarelli. The WBA is asking your support to make the diaper drive a success. Jana and Mariah are collecting diapers and pull-ups as well as cash donations to purchase the same, which will be donated to several area charities for distribution. Susan B. Anthony Reception February 21, 2012

The WBA's Twentieth Susan B. Anthony Reception was held on February 21, 2012 at the William Penn Hotel. This year we honored Judge Nora Barry Fischer, United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. The Executive Committee selects the Award Winner from member nominations of a male or female member of the profession who most exemplifies the objectives and goals of the WBA. The critera for the award are: working to promote and maintian the highest standards for the legal profession, the judiciary and the court systems of Western Pennsylvania; working to promote the welfare and interests of women lawyers in a fair and impartial manner; working toward the preservation of the rights of women and the elimination of gender biased conduct in the law and legal profession affecting women lawyers, litigants and individuals employed in the legal profession; promoting opportunities for women in the judiciary; and encouraging the participation of women in all facets of the legal profession.

The WBA Executive Committee was delighted to select Judge Fischer as the 2012 Susan B. Anthony Award Winner. She has exemplified the objectives and goals of the WBA throughout her career as a litigator in private practice and on the bench. She continues her dedication to professionalism not only through her work on the bench but through her efforts on the Inns of Court. She is a tireless supporter of women attorneys and an excellent mentor to younger attorneys, consistently providing sound advice and encouragement.

The event was attended by over 250 attorneys, judges, and members of the community. The event was free to our 2012 Members.

WBA 25th Anniversary 2013

2013 marks the WBA's 25th year of promoting opportunities for women in the legal profession. Volunteers are needed to plan activities to recognize and celebrate. Please contact Barbara Payne at barbarapayne@pacses.com if you would like to volunteer.

Golf Outing 2012: Save the Date

The WBA will be returning to Butlers Golf Course for the 2012 Golf Outing on Friday, July 27, 2012. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this awesome event.
