The Honorable Ralph J. Cappy

The Women’s Bar Association of Western Pennsylvania mourns the loss of a genuine friend and zealous advocate for gender equality in the legal profession, the Honorable Ralph J. Cappy, Retired Chief Justice, Pennsylvania Supreme Court, who passed away on May 1, 2009. The Chief was dedicated to promoting equal treatment for women in the practice of law and in the court system throughout his career, and received the 2008 Susan B. Anthony Award in recognition for his endeavors in this regard. He will truly be missed by the many women whose careers he enriched through his mentoring and tireless efforts to level the playing field. Undoubtedly, his legacy will continue to advance the role of women in the law.
